i had the exact thoughts about the current taylor swift discourse, her transition in exposure and how it affects the relationship she has with fans. it’s a wonderful piece and i’m glad to have come across your work!

That was such a fantastic read, thank you! I remember thinking that maybe something similar was going to happen to Florence Pugh when all the DWD promo stuff was going down. You are so right in pointing out that it feels a bit like the women whose stars have risen in the digital age are navigating the tightwalk of exposure in new ways, your description of Zendaya’s strategy really made that clear.

Zendaya’s strategy is so interesting because we truly know nothing about her personal life (other than her relationship with Tom). Seeing her do a Vogue GRWM for Challengers press was the most I’ve ever seen her talk about herself and even that wasn’t about herself.. it was about her clothes, almost as a distraction.

so beautifully written. everything you said, the examples you used are all so true. i feel so silly commenting on this as my blog is quite literally called “people’s princess” but your point about lifting someone up and constantly loving her until she reaches a moment where the world seems to turn against her (i think about anne hathaway first and foremost) is so relevant in todays world. we love them until we tire of them. i loved reading this so much! <3

thank you so much for reading and sharing. as parasocial relationships become even more common and stars are expected to “engage” with audiences in order to prosper, i think we will see it more and more 😮‍💨
